On one hand, I don't really take any opinions about not understanding stories seriously because literary comprehension is at an all-time low LOL. On the other hand, they're actually right in this case because the writing in Love and Deepspace isn't anything.

The English translation isn't terrible (especially when you compare it to translations other otome games get), but there's only so much a translation can do when the source material isn't giving anything. I say this as someone who gets shared English screenshots from friends puzzled at scenes and I always ask to look at the Chinese version to figure out if the bizarre non sequitur conversations are because of bad English translations or not. The answer is always that the Chinese version is pretty poor too LOL but sometimes marginally better only because Chinese sentence-final particles convey some more information to connect lines together.

I really dislike the exoticism of Chinese going around in that community, especially with translators hyping up words for no reason. Context is everything and yet these people are pushing the idea that Chinese characters carry so much more meaning when English words can do the same.

Love and Deepspace has a science fiction setting, there's no exclusive Chinese culture gatekeeping people from the story LOL. It's not like this is some ancient China setting where you would need to understand the society at the time, nor is it drawing from modern Chinese culture like Beyond the World does with their web novel settings. A bunch of their myths can be understood with Western mythology equivalents.

saw a lads opinion about them not getting the story at all and i saw the replies agreeing with them and most of their reasons are maybe they're not getting it at all due to the exclusively cn terms being translated weird in english and i saw one that made me 👀 they say that the story has cryptic deep messages that's only exclusive to cn culture lmao.... and THAT fandom wants LN to be globalized so bad? 😹
