It's an unusual situation, because it wasn't a scandal like with Li Yuantao or the mess with Jiang Guangtao, where people were attached to their voices and then they were suddenly removed. Everyone knows of Wu Lei being a veteran in the industry and his amazing works in the past... the keywords are "in the past" though, because the drop in quality and change in voice register is undeniable.

Charlie and Sariel have always tied for third place in my personal ranking, moving above or below each other depending on their recent character development and cards. However, because of the current voicing, Charlie has fallen down to 4th place... So, I would be lying if I said I wasn't affected, haha.

I mention the bullying a lot because it had turned extreme (the PG accounts when Wu Lei made a statement in July this year, uh...), but I do have to acknowledge that they did give him a "chance" since their complaints started from like 2 years ago and I don't think anyone wanted a voice change, they just wanted him to take care of his voice, have stricter voice actor directing, etc. But when nothing changed in their eyes for 2 years and they're paying customers... Of course, this doesn't justify them harassing him in his personal life, but the resentment spawned from these games was certainly becoming unmanageable.

Anyway, yeah, there's always a degree of nervousness over who will be the successor voice actor and if they'll be good or not. On one hand, we have Liu Beichen as a success story; on the other hand, that was after the whole 阿旦Rover fiasco LOL. I'm most scared of Light and Night picking someone who just sounds weird in the role, because as much as I love Ma Zhengyang as a voice actor I don't think his voice register suits Ye Xuan, urk. I have 2 wishlist voice actors as candidates for Charlie though, so let's see if my wish is granted in exchange for a global Light and Night being released next year.

Man... I'm sad. I mean, I kinda expected it from looking at bilibili posts (I only go on bilibili, I can only imagine how bad it can get on other sites) and every single one that has Charlie on it has comments about WL/changing CVs. But I was still hoping things would get better bc I'm so attached to WL's Charlie :( Actually, you got me interested in LN, so I went to watch some of their PVs (which turned into all) and it got me hook line and sinker haha and the one that actually got me to download the game were Charlie's lines in the stranger party PV! God knows how many times I looped that line. Then, of course, I went into the Charlie memes (重金悬赏未婚妻 is a classic) and then the main story/轨迹 cards made me love Charlie for real. Especially the cards detailing Charlie's childhood, I remember how amazing his acting was, the lines are basically imprinted in my head. That being said, it did get to a point where I noticed a drop in the quality of the voice acting, and with all the harassment, it probably is better for him to retire from the role :( I'm also lowkey scared whoever they hire next won't live up to expectations, but well not all hope is lost, seeing how it seems to have worked out for LZY? I'm sure there's many talented VAs out there, and it would be interesting to see how someone else interprets Charlie! All the best to WL though, I hope he can finally catch a break. His work will always be in my head rent free <3
