You know what I've been thinking of recently? It's that period when the Marvel universe was being established and anyone who knew anything knew about Marvel movies, and so there was a bunch of discourse over how the female characters were written, specifically Black Widow, because the criticism was that she was being forced to represent every woman out there (instead of being written as her own character) because there was barely any female representation in the movies at the time. However, we can clearly see that no single character can represent everyone everywhere and that it leads to bad writing LOL.

How this ties back to Love and Deepspace is that, while the game itself is not trying to be everything (I think we can see Papergame's direction by now LOL), people are treating it as the sole representation of female-oriented games and so it has to be everything. Their sexy banners are done tastefully, unlike male-oriented games; their sexy banners create sex positivity so it's deep and thoughtful, unlike male-oriented games; their sexy banners aren't just sex it also talks about other things in a relationship, unlike male-oriented games; etc. and ad nauseam.

I don't have much else to say on this point, I'm just munching on popcorn in amusement and thinking about how time is a flat circle because, when Light and Night was dominating the revenue charts for otome games in China, its sexy banners were treated the same way and the community had to fight itself and outside opinions. Hilariously, I just remembered Mihoyo fans were at this scene too because Tears of Themis players were being high and mighty about how their relationships had proper milestones and slow burn development unlike LN. This is the same rodeo, just on a larger scale because of LaDS' reach and global getting involved.

If one thing can still get me angry at the LaDS community though, then it's definitely that feeling of 3D superiority over 2D. Stop sharing fan art or using Light and Night cards as references if your 3D is so superior then! Grab references from real life stock photos on Pinterest! (This is me being full petty, because I know exactly why people are still attracted to 2D art).

But yeah, traditionally, CN gacha otome games have the "card simulation" gameplay where you pull for cards, level the cards up, and slap them on enemies to do damage LOL. No one finds it riveting, but they also don't care that much because the draw of these games is the story and relationship with the men. LaDS' action combat is definitely a breath of fresh air, but still not the main focus for everyone.

Papergames being greedy has a history LOL just look at how many boycotts Love and Producer had. I still remember what's probably their biggest scandal, which was the manipulated rates of one of their early 4-man banners. It took them like 3~4 years before they finally brought those cards back.

RIP, in the end, women—real and fictional—still suffer the most out of all this discourse LOL. Real women feel the need to prove they have higher standards because their interests are constantly looked down on and fictional women are constantly treated as objects created solely to titillate men.

(It's okay... at this point, I'm numb to being a lightning rod for LaDS opinions LOL.)

genshin controversy over male situation + lds top grossing = players smugly pointing to lds and saying shit like male characters do sell. calling male-dominated games 'coomer games' when lds is at its peak horny phase (like have you SEEN YOUR OWN BANNER??? helloo??????????????? or, fucking hilariously enough even the 1st limited (xav card) literally being shirtless. but okay. the cognitive dissonance is insane.) (oh, and calling genshin 'incel game.')

then when people point out hoyo has their own otome game, they respond that the gameplay is boring and low-effort and bring up lds 3d models + arpg gameplay. like uh. the outlier vs the industry standard?? LBC, LN, ToT all have similar gameplay imo, not my favorite but I don't play otome gachas for gameplay...nobody even brought up story, writing, romance, etc. it's just superiority complex over 3d = quality, 2d = low-effort. 

(not to mention the hilarity of calling hoyo greedy, which yeah I don't really disagree, but praising infold/pg...like as if there weren't outrage and boycotts because of their stingy + greedy behavior in the initial few months.)

(also also, not exactly related to lds but as a bi woman, seeing female characters instantly get the 'must be meant for incels and coomers' reaction makes me want to crawl into a hole and scream.)
