I'm not online enough to know what you're talking about (THANK GOD), haha, and I don't know if this will be a (cold) comfort or not, but sometimes I remind myself that the internet and anonymity makes it so that people talk in hyperboles and generalizations.

Perhaps not the greatest thing to do, but I can somewhat understand what's happening here because I use similar language where it's like "I hate x as a whole, but I don't hate individuals (except for the ones that do cross my line LOL)".

Although I agree there's a problem in left-leaning spaces where people are more likely to eat each other because they hold each other to impossibly high standards and any "fault" makes someone irredeemable; at the same time, everyone there is kind of like a paper tiger LOL. If you push them on their position hard enough, I don't think they'll hold onto their position because you would be cornering them into admitting something they don't want to admit (not that I recommend this because it's risky when you're making someone double down on something).

Anyway, unfortunately, it's infinitely easier to find people that disappoint you than people you can respect, which is why it's important to curate your space. Sometimes people you respect end up stepping on a path that makes you disrespect them and that's also a part of life, sadly, and you need to know when to cut off ties before resentment brews because you keep seeing them say things you disagree with. The best and only thing you can do in situations like these is to remember your own principles and live in a way where you don't have a guilty conscience. You can't control anything in this world except for yourself, so hopefully you can adjust your expectations to reflect that and then you won't feel as bothered by other people's actions or lack of actions.

I'm being a little vague (but also probably rather obvious lol). So there's this popular team that's blown up recently. They've also garnered a vocal portion of asshole fans that are bigots, although the team itself wants no part of that shit. So it's become a sort of culture war type shit in which online leftists generalize fans of this (VERY popular) team as ___-ists and say childish shit like 'if you're a fan of x, I will judge you', or, 'please don't say you got into ___ because of this team/person' (even though they're objectively (like by all statistical metrics) the most attractive draw) quotes of that nature. 

It's just whatever, roll my eyes and scroll past, but somebody I followed on tumblr (the most terminally online type of people) also started getting into this scene, and started posting about how they wish the worst for x fans and basically lumping a whole fucking fanbase into rightwing bs. I'm just so disappointed. I don't know, I don't even know them on a personal level, and while we're technically on the same 'side' politically (sorry, not to open that can of worms), it's like the online leftists can't stop eating each other. I try not to idolize anybody online especially, but I just have a sinking feeling from these dogshit interactions, esp with the political landscape in reality these days.
