So, as a disclaimer, this isn't directed at you personally, but you activated my trap card which makes me go on my own rant LOL. I really dislike this kind of stereotyping, and I question the opinions in general of anyone who likes Qi Yu just because he's not a "macho manly boss dude". Like yeah, no CN otome male love interest is a "macho manly boss dude" and that's what makes them so attractive to women.

I get it. These people probably don't like 猛男 characters (like Qin Che and Xia Yizhou), but even these characters have traits that remove them from being macho manly boss dudes, to say nothing of how Shen Xinghui and Li Shen aren't in either of these categories then.

Osborn is a 猛男 character too, but he nearly cries when you celebrate his 1st birthday, he nearly cries when he apologizes to you after a fight, and he puts on a cat tail and meows and calls you master. Charlie is the Perfect Man™ and yet I'm only half-joking when I say his character arc makes him an otome game heroine, he's scared of horror movies, he wears women's clothing without shame, and he doesn't care about his image when he tries to put his hand in the crook of your arm like you're the man escorting the woman.

I... very much dislike most localizations, so I wouldn't use anything except for the source language to support any arguments. It's especially bad in Love and Deepspace's case because the localization has shown it's lack of foresight and accuracy LOL. Have you considered that Qi Yu's English voice acting sounds flamboyant because everyone (including the English voice director) is playing into the stereotype that an artist character should be a sensitive soul with feminine or twink energy because "macho manly boss dudes" aren't artists? I've heard Qi Yu's Chinese voice and he sounds like Zhou Qiluo, Lu Jinghe, and Jesse, where they all do some 撒娇, are a bit bratty, but by and large are cunning.

The reason these arguments are white-hot is because otome games are character-driven stories that are all about romantic relationships with the men. There's an extremely limited cast that you'll see again and again throughout the year and get to examine deeper and deeper, so you get character analysis on crack compared to a game like Genshin (on a side note, can everyone please stop comparing games that aren't in the same categories LOL that's why none of these comparisons work). However, as I've already said, the English localization for Love and Deepspace is a mess and so to understand the men best you would have to go to the source, meaning looking at the Chinese version. Anyone who thinks they can achieve a better understanding of anything through a translation over the source language is delusional. But language is clearly a barrier and so people either know enough to browse CN spaces and lift content over from there or you have multilinguals sharing their thoughts.

We would have peace if everyone just stuck to their own version and never discussed any other version, or made it clear which version they're talking about and only speak strictly within that sphere, but that's an ideal dream that will never happen LOL. No one wants to accept that, by consuming a localization, they are inherently one step removed from the discussion versus people who discuss straight from the source material, which already creates differing opinions in its original space because, in this example, Chinese people aren't a monolith and they also have people with shit media literacy over there.

After all this, I just have to ask out of curiosity if you like Jesse because he's the least macho manly boss dude looking character of Light and Night LOL even though his character arc is about him wanting to become more of a "macho manly boss dude". I'm reminded of how stuff like this is what led to discourse about Sariel's Season 3 Chapter 1 art because some people thought he looked too "alpha" instead of being their pretty wife I guess, even though this 3000+ year old fox used to be an undefeatable war general and governed 3 societies at different periods of time in different positions.

Anyway, I guess my TL;DR is that characters have many sides to them and they shouldn't just be simply categorized as masculine or feminine.

when it comes to QY i’ve seen cn fans on rednote say the fact that they like that he’s not this macho manly boss dude. but then u come on twitter and see rafayel mains arguing and disagreeing all the time. god forbid u say he’s flamboyant (when he is esp his eng va)( and i’ve seen cn qy mains call him ‘coquettish’) or feminine. most qy fans i know like the duality. and if you’re queer (im bi myself) god forbid u have headcanons saying that u and ur main r bi4bi. or that qiyu would love mc no matter what bc he doesn’t care about superficial things the way humans do like gender bc he’s a mythical sea creature. like these people always use cn fans to justify their harassment (and i mean cn burner accs creating deepfakes of queer raf mains and doxxing their personal instas im not joking) but from the community on rednote its not like that at all. 

lads is an otome game and the first requirement is a woman mc, nobody denies that and anyone who does shouldn’t be playing an otome. but why go out of your way to harass women, often bisexual and pansexual, who headcanon for the “dignity of cn fans” when twitter is a global app and often used by western fandoms who will not be the same as cn fandom. like genshin is a cn game and yet u dont see people telling others that they cant headcanon bc its chinese game?? i don’t even know why im ranting here i just like the fact that i can basically write an essay here with no limit LOL
