I still chalk all this discourse up to women's spaces being historically more inclusive than other spaces, which makes otome games an easy target; however, it's also not helped by how the term "otome" has been misused in Western spaces and because the English visual novel community started off with inclusivity and diversity being their selling point, since Japanese otome games weren't fulfilling their needs. Now people think Japanese and Chinese otome games need to be like Western "otome" games.

I'll also say there's an "overcorrection" on stances like, if patriarchy and toxic masculinity are bad, then all heterosexual relationships are clearly bad (ignoring how otome games themselves give power back to women by letting them explore whatever fantasies they want) and only M/M and F/F relationships have no intrinsic evil in them or something nor are they upholding the status quo LOL.

Without people telling you how much how homophobic or slop it is. Not even CRACK SHIPS are safe because why are people making a fuss about Regina and Roderick? In addition, why the hell are they even Otome spaces too? The genre is basically "het romance the games." I'm baffled quite frankly, like sorry LADS fans, those men are straightest dudes I've ever seen in my life.
