The more I see BL in otome spaces, the more it pisses me off. Like, I'm bi myself but there's a subsection of those fujoshi that are fucking unhinged and only see BL as something to fetishize. I don't know if I'm being hypocritical because I do enjoy BL media, but I just dislike it whenever it's brought up in otome games. Esp when they think that otome media is free capital for them to play around in. Ik I  can't control other player's thoughts and they're free to play around however they want, but like. am I making any sense? lol. ugh. and then there's the homophobia accusations (which are so fucking dumb, like I even feel bad for LDS for getting that reputation, whenever that's brought up as a complaint against the game). Not saying that queer people can't be homophobic POS (cough log cabin republicans), but ykwim

Or on the other side may not be so good for us (considering the price increase), etc. 

I’ve played Visual Novels before that offer gender selection and they’ve been pretty much underwhelming to me. Most of them don’t have an MC with a face so that’s already a minus plus I’m not a fan of how they handle character interactions. When I select she/her pronouns, I don’t feel like I’m experiencing the story through the eyes of a woman. So I guess it’s cool indie devs experiment with this and make what they want to make but I wouldn’t want all games to go this route because for many people it will end up underwhelming. This is also a complaint I’ve seen in the otome games subreddit. That it feels like the story is strictly gender neutral and not like an otome. It’s just too different.

Including (Events, Personal Routes, etc). 

 but I also want to read the event stories as well I was worried on getting spoiled since it will reference the men main story counterparts in some way. it it better to read event stories in release order? thank u 

Ili, do you have any advice about building good habits? I want to get serious about learning Japanese, but not just that, I also want to focus on my fitness (getting old haha) and maybe write more? But this all goes out the window after a few days of productivity, its like a never-ending loop. I really admire that you learned JP when you were younger and now you're fluent in Chinese too. I know you said your background helps but it still takes effort and dedication to stick by it and reach a fluent stage. I just don't want to look back to now in 10 years and realize I wasted my time worrying about learning stuff "too late", it sounds so dumb saying it loud myself right now lol but in the moment you get lost in your head.

This came up when discussing otome fandom in comparison to other fandoms with a friend, you know how in Asia, particularly Korea, China and Japan it's more common to find solo stans while in western spaces fans are usually "multi" stans, so I was wondering...is the same thing valid for otome games? Many western fans complain they can't keep up being f2p or low spenders etc. but if you mainly focus on 1 LI it should be super easy to save and get everything of that character, no? I just wonder, thanks! 

I find it funny how modern fandom hates anything or even anyone who's  remotely straight. Ships, real people, or even headcanons. YET, these same people demand that Otome games should be more inclusive of m/m, f/f, etc or else you're being homophobic. Like SHUSH

lol I remember reading a while back that you disliked the lads MC and I was really confused at the time what you meant until recently. Maybe, I kinda regret saying the looks of the MC are just for aesthetic and that is more important what the MC has to say. I get it really depends of the case, but the examples you use (L&N) is obvious that the MC is going to represent the beauty standard of the country, since also you mention is a game that is heavy in talking about chinese culture. So it makes total sense  that she has to look the way it looks because is for that public. Adding a black or brown skinned MC in a game like that is going to be off (and I don't even know how people would react).

I remember one time I played a dating sim where the MC was dead and was in a fictional underworld (also all the dating option were dead people) and the aesthetic of the game was very fairytale-like, so the MC was just a black siluette. The hair and clothing was colorful but she was just a blank. I find this choice very interesting indeed, she can be whatever you want, she hasn't skin color or race.

I also there was this dating sim from Spain, where the devs decided to add three race options for the MC: african, asian and caucasian. It was also a interesting choice to add, all this three options where added as the default to pick.

Them I remember when I used to play Midnight Cinderella and for the English version, you could change the color skin of the avatar. Later I learned this is something that was exclusive of the English version. Over this, only have to say that it was fun to have a black MC, but it was a pain to pick makeup for her because all the options where designed for the fair skin avatar I believe, so some looked terrible in the black skin.

Color skin options for the MC is normally something for the avatar when there is a wardrobe, and the illustrations of the game only show the default look of the MC (because adding customized illustrations is expensive and taxing, I guess LaDS gets away with it).

Still the main point for the first ask is that I see people read "white" and think "race" and I personslly read "white" and think "color skin" and just don't get it, why I understand something different (is really the same? Is different? How you make a difference?).

I feel my reading capabilities actively deteriorating in the sense that I have to reread lines frequently, sometimes my brain goes elsewhere while reading (lack of focus even though I enjoy the work), 'speed'reading or struggling to imagine scenes sometimes even though I had zero problems like this when I was younger. I know the solution to this is to keep reading daily and practice, but its just embarrassing realizing this lol. I was always bad at speaking but reading was one of my prides and now even that has crumbled.

Also I want to say that your encouragement (not towards anyone specifically, but generally) of being a mindful reader/consumer motivates me a lot. Seeing you dissect stuff, even when I have no interest in it, is cool. All my life I've liked seeing people passionate about their hobbies even when I know nothing about it haha.

I started playing recently, trying out the different servers, and I’m a bit confused on how reruns work in LN lol. I dont think I’ve seen solo event cards get reruns, birthdays (??) are a mystery because I’m not sure if I started too late or if there was never a rerun for Charlie’s (or QSL’s) 1st birthday on TW server. I have seen some 4SSRs get reruns (1? 2 year maybe?), and I think I’ve heard anniversary cards get reruns. Oh, wheels gets reruns too (also takes a long time?). Would really appreciate some clarification lol, tysm!! 💛🫶
